The ARCS Foundation and the BHSI

Motivated by positive interactions with the ARCS Foundation's Seattle chapter while at the University of Washington Medical School, former UGA Provost Karen Holbrook approached the ARCS Foundation's Atlanta chapter about the possibility of support for top UGA graduate students in the biomedical and health sciences. In consultation with the ARCS Foundation and UGA Provost's Office, the UGA Biomedical and Health Sciences Initiative (now the Biomedical and Health Sciences Institute) formally applied to become a nominating instititution for ARCS Scholars. The application was accepted by ARCS National Chapter and with the official formation of the BHSI, administration of the UGA ARCS Fellowship program found its home in the BHSI.

The BHSI puts out a call to the BHSI membership for ARCS nominations each spring, based on the availability of fellowships. Note that potential scholars do not apply directly, but are nominated by their advisor.
